Create a knowledge management platform to increase the flow of information and expertise that is critical to the work of the members of Internews International.
Your project objectives:
Create a mutlilingual information repository accessible from everywhere (potentially allowing offline use) Allow very easy, non-intrusive, submission of all type of digital information (documents, media, email, bookmarks, slideshares, mindmaps...) Allow comments, questions around documents, and semantic tagging of these annotations also. Allow declarative access rights for documents and Allow very easy semantic tagging of documents according to several perspectives (geographical, project life cycle, thematic,...), including semantic analysis (through opencalais for instance) Allow very easy extraction and tagging of paragraphs or sections inside documents. Allow declarative and deductive semantic profiling, and social network topology to notify users of interesting documents related to their work and interests. Allow multi-faceted, explorative and educative browsing of the knowledge repository. Focus on usability flow and unobtrusive functionalities.
Success factors:
Adoption by non technical users. Adoption by IT teams. Steady increase of submitted, then semantically tagged, documents, emails, bookmarks, contacts. Participation.
Value factors:
If the system contributes to make II members better informed about geographical, thematic, funding issues. If the system contributes to strenghten the collaboration between II members. If the users recognize the value of contributing and sharing knowledge, and participate in extracting useable bits of knowledge embedded into wider scoped documents.
Other remarks:
The Internews International network is the leader in supporting professionnal and independant provision of information to citizens around the world, by equipping its members with tools which are based on the latest advances in ICTs, II will be best position to leverage the information revolution for the benefit of its members and of the wider public.
